The head of Holden in Australia and New Zealand has resigned after less than eight months in the job.
Gerry Dorizas is leaving the company immediately to "pursue other opportunities", the car maker said in a statement.
The industry veteran has been managing director and chairman of Holden since March 1, overseeing the closure of its manufacturing operations, which will be completed by the end of 2017.
The sudden departure will not change the company's plans for its business in Australia, General Motors executive vice president Stefan Jacoby said.
"General Motors is 100 per cent committed to the Holden brand and its long term success in Australia," he said in a statement.
"The foundation has been built to transform GM Holden in Australia and we are determined to maintain momentum to continue to push towards our strategic objectives."
Holden chief financial officer Jeff Rolfs will serve as the company's interim managing director until a permanent replacement is found.
