Video footage showing a motorist in southwestern China pulling the driver of another car out of her vehicle before viciously kicking and throwing her to the ground has triggered calls for change.

The footage, which came out earlier this month, sparked outrage around the world.

Dash-cam footage later revealed that the female driver had cut in front of the man at the last second on a highway.

After the dash-cam footage came out, many of the woman’s sympathisers online turned against her, stirring a debate about reckless driving and road rage, CNN reports.

The male driver was detained and a police investigation is underway.

Police said in the last three years, about 100 million traffic violations were related to road rage and authorities were now tightening rules and increasing penalties.
