Shorten's plan for South Australia

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten will release his "positive policies" for South Australia, a state that is facing uncertainty as jobs disappear.

Bill Shorten is set to release his plan for South Australia, a state he says is facing job losses and an uncertain future as a result of the coalition's attacks on manufacturing and other industries.

"Almost three years after the Liberals goaded Holden into leaving the country, they still don't have a plan for creating and protecting jobs in South Australia," he says.

Mr Shorten says Labor has a plan to build infrastructure to create jobs and drive the SA economy for the next generation.

"The projects we're backing will create local jobs for local people - and guarantee a start for more apprentices," he says.

LABOR'S PLANS FOR SA INCLUDE:

* Infrastructure projects including $500 million towards the AdeLINK tram project, creating 2000 local jobs over four years.

* Shipbuilding investment through the construction of nine frigates (2000 shipbuilding jobs), 12 offshore patrol vessels from 2018 and 12 submarines (2800 jobs)

* $100 million for targeted investment in steel making at Arrium, which will secure more than 3500 jobs.

* More than 200 new apprenticeships.

* Increased funding for hospitals over the next four years - about $140 million more than under the Liberals.

* Invest $355 million more in targeted, needs based funding for South Australian schools in 2018 and 2019.
