A one-time bikie who was shot at a Gold Coast shopping centre had a hidden flick knife when he rode to hospital with a police officer in back of an ambulance, a court has heard.
Senior Constable Sean Loughram gave evidence at the trial of Mark James Graham, who opened fire on then Bandidos gang member Jacques Teamo at the busy Robina Town Centre shopping precinct in April 2012.
One of Graham's shots also hit bystander Kathy Devitt in the buttock.
After the shooting, Const Loughram rode with Teamo to the Gold Coast Hospital in an ambulance.
Once they arrived, a paramedic had given him Teamo's clothes, the constable told the Supreme Court in Brisbane on Friday.
"The female ambulance officer provided me with hooded sweatshirt and advised me there was a knife inside," he told the court.
Const Loughram said the knife had a collapsible blade that could be opened with a switch.
Paramedic Jan Muhlenberg, who was also in the ambulance, said Teamo had left behind clothing and a concealed weapon.
"There was a jumper and what looked like a knife," Mr Muhlenberg told the court.
Graham also legally admitted to shooting Teamo and accidentally hitting Ms Devitt.
He has pleaded guilty to weapons possession.
But he pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, unlawfully wounding with intent to maim, and unlawfully wounding Ms Devitt.
His legal representative David Edwardson QC told AAP that the principle of self-defence would be central to the case.
The court has been told Teamo was a member of the Bandidos bikie gang at the time of the shooting but is no longer associated with the group.
The matter is due to return to court on Monday.
