A single shot has been fired at a home in Sydney's west following an argument at the address, police say.

A shot has been fired at a home in Sydney's west following an altercation outside, police say.

Officers were called to the home on Jamison Road in Penrith at about 10pm on Friday on reports of a single shot being fired.

A number of people were inside the home at the time but no one was injured.

Police say the shot appeared to have been fired after an altercation outside the home and a car, described as a small white hatchback, was seen on Jamison Road around the time of the incident.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
