Shot fired in Sydney kidnapping

Police have arrested and charged a woman over an alleged kidnapping after raiding her home in Sydney's west.

A woman has been charged with kidnapping and firearms offences after police raided a home in Sydney's west.

It's alleged the 26-year-old went to a house on Madang Street in Whalan with a man on Wednesday, where they threatened the couple living there.

The pair allegedly demanded money before firing a shot into the television.

Police say they kidnapped a 28-year-old woman and stole her car but she was released unharmed a short time later.

On Thursday, local officers along with those from the Tactical Operations Unit and State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad executed a search warrant at a home in nearby Goroka Street.

A bullet cartridge, a bike and clothing were among a number of items seized.

The accused woman was arrested at the home and charged with detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage and using an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence.

She's been bail refused to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court on Friday.

Detectives are trying to find the man involved.
