Young Penrith playmaker Te Maire Martin will miss the rest of the NRL season due to a shoulder injury.

Martin suffered the injury in the Panthers' round eight loss to Cronulla on Sunday at Shark Park.

The 20-year-old, who was playing in his first season of NRL, has been diagnosed with a displaced shoulder and he will undergo surgery on the injury.

Penrith supremo Phil Gould confirmed the news on Tuesday evening.

"Te Maire Martin - fractured glenoid (shoulder). Displaced. Terrible injury, very painful & will require surgery Unfortunately out for season," Gould wrote on Twitter.

Peter Wallace has moved from hooker into the Panthers' halves alongside Jamie Soward for their home match against Canberra in Bathurst on Saturday.

James Segeyaro returns from a broken arm into the dummy half role for Penrith.
