Show some sympathy for WA, PM tells states

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has called on the eastern states and territories to show some sympathy for Western Australia over the GST carve-up.

Any state facing the prospect of a smaller slice of the GST revenue pie would scream "blue, bloody murder", Tony Abbott says.

The prime minister has called on the eastern states and territories to show some sympathy for Western Australia as it tries to balance its budget with about $300 million less in GST revenue next year.

"I think the state premiers should do for WA what they would demand for themselves if they were in the same position," Mr Abbott told Fairfax radio on Thursday.
