Sick passenger causes flight turnback

A Jetstar flight from Sydney to Darwin has turned back for an emergency landing after a passenger became seriously ill.

A Jetstar flight bound for Darwin has been turned back to Sydney after a passenger became seriously ill.

About an hour into the flight the crew decided to make an emergency landing on Wednesday night in Sydney, from where the flight departed.

A pre-existing medical condition, along with severe vomiting, concerned the flight crew who sought medical advice.

"(He) was vomiting, and it was clear (he was) quite unwell," a Jetstar spokesman told AAP.

He said the passenger had a pre-existing medical condition that concerned the medical advisory team.

The spokesperson would not disclose the medical condition, but said it was not contagious and there is no concern of Ebola.

Passengers on Jetstar flight JQ672 were offered hotel rooms for the night, while an additional Sydney to Darwin flight will run on Thursday evening.
