Siddle signs with BBL cricket Renegades

The Renegades have signed bowlers Peter Siddle (R) and James Pattinson for the next two BBL seasons.

Big Bash League semi-finalists Melbourne Renegades on Tuesday signed Test quicks Peter Siddle and James Pattinson for the next two seasons.

Leggie and Test hopeful Fawad Ahmed will form a spin trio with Aaron O'Brien and Sri Lanka's Test world-record holder Muttiah Muralidaran at the Renegades in the BBL 03 domestic Twenty20 cricket competition.

The season starts on December 20 when the Melbourne Stars host the Renegades at the MCG.

"We've got a fantastic team on the field and this year with a few more people coming in, expect some fiery, fast spells," Pattinson said.

The 23-year-old pace spearhead has broken down with a back injury after the second Test of the Ashes series in England and will play no further part in the series after taking seven wickets in the opening two matches.

Test specialist Siddle says he's keen to return to domestic T20 this summer.

"I want to get back into playing short-form cricket. To have that opportunity again in four-over bursts, having a crack and getting the pace up there, I think it'll be a lot of fun," Siddle said.

Renegades coach Simon Helmot said the pace duo would offer a big boost to his side's bowling stocks.

"To have `Patto' and `Sidds' steaming in from either end is going to be pretty exciting for everyone watching," Helmot said.

Jayde Herrick, Nathan Rimmington and Will Sheridan are also part of the Renegades' pace attack.

Ahmed, who fled Pakistan and relocated to Australia as a refugee in 2010, played one game for the Renegades last summer and grabbed 16 wickets in three Shield matches for Victoria.

Three spots remain open on the Renegades' 18-man roster which will be filled by December 6.

Renegades' squad: Aaron Finch (capt), Peter Nevill, James Pattinson, Tom Cooper, Peter Siddle, Daniel Harris, Muttiah Muralidaran, Nathan Rimmington, Ben Rohrer, Michael Hill, Will Sheridan, Jayde Herrick, Aaron O'Brien, Alex Doolan, Fawad Ahmed.
