Simmons, Maker follow Exum's NBA path

The long journey from high school basketball prodigy to the NBA usually goes through the annual Nike Hoop Summit in Portland.

In 2013 a skinny, gangly 17-year-old Dante Exum turned up to the Nike Hoop Summit in the US and put on a show that left NBA scouts open-mouthed.

This year it will be fellow Australians Ben Simmons and Thon Maker out to impress.

The 18th Nike Hoop Summit, in Portland, Oregon, on April 11 brings together the world's top basketball players aged under 19.

A world team takes on America's best.

Exum was dynamic in 2013, scoring 16 points as the World Select Team set a scoring-record 112-98 win over the fancied US, which featured future top 10 NBA draft picks Jabari Parker and Julius Randle.

Exum went on to be selected number five by the Utah Jazz in last year's draft.

Simmons, an 18-year-old, 206cm forward from Melbourne, was this week named the top US high school basketball player after taking his Florida school, Montverde, to two national championships.

Maker, an 18-year-old 216cm centre with point guard ball handling and three point skills, is being courted by every major US college team, including Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, UCLA, Missouri, Maryland and Indiana.
