Australian teenager Ben Simmons has reminded the basketball world why he is favourite to be the No.1 pick in the next NBA Draft.
The 208cm 19-year-old from Melbourne scored 43 points, had 14 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Louisiana State University Tigers to a 119-108 home win over the North Florida Ospreys on Wednesday.
He became the only major conference player in the last 20 seasons with at least 40 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals in a game.
Simmons and his LSU teammates were desperate for a victory.
They had lost their last three games and been labelled one of US college basketball's biggest disappointments.
LSU were down 33-19 midway through the first half, but Simmons, with back-to-back dunks, eroded the deficit to be down 56-48 at half-time.
Simmons' statistics also included five steals and three blocks and his points came from exceptional 15-20 shooting.
The Ospreys were considered difficult opponents, going into the game with a 6-2 record.
LSU improve to 4-3.
