Singapore to get cuddly ambassadors

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has announced Australia is giving Singapore four koalas as part of 50th democracy celebrations.

Australia is pursuing koala diplomacy with Singapore as the island state celebrates 50 years of democracy.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop on Thursday announced four "beautiful cuddly ambassadors" are on their way to Singapore Zoo.

"I can't think of a better way to express our friendship, our partnership, the depth of relationship," she told reporters at the Lone Pine Sanctuary in Brisbane.
