At least six women have been sexually assaulted in Brisbane after being stopped by a man who pretends he doesn't know how to use a mobile phone.

Police say the same man has been terrorising women walking the streets of Bulimba in the city's eastern suburbs since February with the latest assault happening earlier this month.

Six women, aged between 20 and 60, told police a man of Indian appearance and aged between 25 and 30 sexually assaulted them after asking for directions or help in using his mobile.

Detective Senior Sergeant Todd Reid declined to detail the assaults other than to say that they "are of a sexual nature".

"In some instances he's approached from behind. In other incidences ... he's been standing up and engaged them in conversation with this ruse of not knowing how to use the phone," he said.

"After having a further look at it we've determined that the male person is the same person.

"In quite a few of the incidences, he's pretended to use a mobile phone (and) pretended to not know how to use it."

The assaults happened on Riding Road near Oxford Street and near the Riding Road and Wynnum Road intersection.

Police believe the offender most likely lives in the area.

"In all of these instances he's been on foot ... in most of these matters the person tends to know their local area," Sen Sgt Reid said.

All the assaults happened at night while women were walking home. The earliest attack was at 6pm and the latest was at midnight.
