Sixers team to watch in BBL: Henriques

Despite losing a raft of players to national duty the Sydney Sixers are second on the Big Bash League ladder after a seven-wicket win over Hobart.

Stand-in skipper Moises Henriques thinks his Sydney Sixers might be the underrated team in the Big Bash League after notching up a seven-wicket victory over the Hobart Hurricanes.

Despite having a line-up decimated by missing Test stars including Steven Smith, Brad Haddin, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, the Sixers are second on the competition ladder after two rounds.

"I'm pretty sure I saw some stuff written in the media that we were odds on to come last (in the competition)," Henriques said after Tuesday's match at Bellerive.

"And at one stage we had nine contracted players available to play that first game. So we are missing a lot of players."

But Henriques, who is skipper while Haddin is absent, says the team's performance so far has shown there is depth to cover the missing big names.

After scoring 29 not out off 25 and taking 2-22 with the ball, Henriques was named man of the match in Hobart on Tuesday.

Nic Maddinson (29 off 12) again showed his value after a first round 84 not out off 54 when the Sixers beat the Melbourne Renegades by eight wickets.

"He's a fantastic batter, he's got all the shots," Henriques said of Maddinson.

"I'm just glad that he's starting to show everyone in Australia what he can actually achieve."

The Sixers face cross-town rivals Sydney Thunder on Saturday in a clash Henriques said the team is focused on.

"It's probably the most important game of the season so far," he said of the upcoming clash.

"We take that game very seriously obviously with the rivalry ... we'll be very well prepared."
