Skydive victim's husband demands inquest

A man who lost his wife in a tragic skydiving accident in far north Queensland wants an open coronial inquest into the tragedy.

The husband of a woman among three killed in a skydiving accident in north Queensland has called for an open inquest into the tragedy.

Alister Pike, the husband of Kerri Pike who died along with two instructors after a suspected midair collision on October 13, says his family's 'hearts and lives' will never be the same.

Mr Pike said in a statement that he will ask the Queensland coroner to fully investigate the cause of the incident through an open coronial inquest after what has been a 'horrible time' in his family.

"Kerri really was an outstanding wife, mother, daughter, sister, business person and friend to all," the former local councillor said in the statement to the ABC.

Skydive Mission Beach reopened last Saturday after the initial investigation by the Australian Parachute Federation (APF) ruled out concerns about the safety of the tandem skydiving equipment used by the company.

"It would appear the equipment was more than adequate. We have no concerns," APF chief executive officer Brad Turner told AAP.

An in-depth report on the investigations from police and the APF is being prepared for the coroner.
