Slade goes back-to-back at Winton

He's waited eight years to win a Supercars race, now Holden's Tim Slade has two victories in as many days after a near-perfect weekend in Winton.

After an eight-year wait for his maiden Supercars race win, Tim Slade has now claimed two victories in as many days.

The Holden driver capped a near-perfect weekend at Winton Motor Raceway with another dominant display in Sunday's 200km race.

While his breakthrough win on Saturday was a wire-to-wire job after claiming pole position, Sunday's victory owed more to strategy than anything else.

Slade started fourth but after a race where drivers employed a variety of strategies it was the Brad Jones Racing star who came out ahead when all the pit stops had been completed with 22 laps to go.

From there Slade streaked away, eventually winning by six seconds ahead of Ford duo Mark Winterbottom and Fabian Coulthard.

"It's true what they say, once you get the first one out of the way, it's easier to win the second one," Slade said.

The 30-year-old is now just the second driver this year to claim multiple race wins, with Volvo's Scott McLaughlin the other man to achieve the feat after his clean sweep of the Phillip Island event in April.

The weekend has lifted Slade to seventh on the championship standings, but in a year where nine different drivers have already claimed wins, there's no talk of a title tilt just yet.

"It's so hard to predict," he said.

"The category's so competitive. Just because you've had an awesome weekend here, you don't go into the next race thinking you're going to clean sweep that.

"Everything worked in our favour this weekend; we nailed it."

Winterbottom's second place has put him on top of the championship for the first time this season - the ninth driver to lead the standings already in 2016.

The defending series champion is 27 points clear of Volvo's Scott McLaughlin with Holden pair Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes third and fourth on the standings.
