Eleven kangaroos have been found slaughtered and dumped in a carwash bin.

Victoria Police were called to a carwash in Warrandyte, northeast ofMelbourne, on Tuesday after the carcasses of five kangaroos were found in a dumpster.

Carwash staff also reported another six kangaroos were found dead last week, along with a 45cm arrow, police said.

Sergeant Stewart Henderson said the deaths may be the work of a bow hunter or bow hunters.

"We are looking at a number in incidents around the area in which animals have been injured or killed by bow hunters," he told AAP on Wednesday.

"These cases are not only a danger to wildlife but also have the possibility to put the public in danger if hunting is involved."

It is unclear if these kangaroos were killed by arrows, but investigators are looking at whether these deaths are linked to a recent incident where an arrow was found in a live kangaroo in Templestowe.

Police are in the process of reviewing CCTV from the carwash.
