Slipper backs Reds rookie flyhalf

Queensland Reds captain James Slipper believes rookie five-eighth Jake McIntyre will be able to handle the nerves on his Super Rugby debut on Friday.

McIntyre, 21, has been named to start at flyhalf as his embattled teammates look to restore some pride against the Melbourne Rebels at Suncorp Stadium.

Slipper says the northern NSW product has been cool, calm and collected at training this week and will not be overawed by the occasion.
