Slovenian women's giant slalom cancelled

Bad weather has forced the International Ski Federation to cancel the women's giant slalom at Kranjska Gora in Slovenia.

The women's giant slalom at Kranjska Gora in Slovenia, the last before the Sochi Olympics, was cancelled on Saturday because of poor visibility, organisers announced.

"Due to the currently difficult weather conditions, with rain and fog, Kranska Gora GS is unfortunately cancelled!" said the International Ski Federation on its Twitter account.

The decision came after the first leg was initially put back by half an hour from its scheduled start.

Sunday's slalom is still due to go ahead and will be the last event before competitors head for Sochi for the Winter Games, which run from February 7-23.

Kranjska Gora had replaced Maribor for this weekend's leg of the World Cup due to a lack of snow in the latter resort.
