There is a growing confidence among small businesses but rising cost pressures means they continue to lag behind their larger counterparts.

That's the finding in the latest Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry small business survey, which showed most indicators reaching or exceeding five-year averages in the December quarter 2015.

"However, small businesses continue to be more exposed than larger enterprises, with wage pressures on the rise and non-wage labour costs elevated," the chamber's chief executive Kate Carnell said releasing the report on Monday.
