Small business to get new ombudsman

Small Business Minister Bruce Billson has released draft legislation to put in place an ombudsman for small firms.

A new ombudsman will allow small firms to get on with their businesses rather than being caught up in disputes, Small Business Minister Bruce Billson says.

Mr Billson has released draft laws for consultation to establish an Australian small business and family enterprise ombudsman.

The ombudsman will ensure small businesses have an easy access point for advice to avoid and manage disputes.

"With the ombudsman in place the hard working women and men of Australian small business can get on with the important job of running their business instead of being caught up in dispute resolution," Mr Billson said.

The consultation process ends on April 7, while Treasury officials will hold targeted, one-on-one meetings across the country over the coming weeks.
