Small Dockers hope for big AFL scalp

Fremantle will be fighting to keep their spot in the top four when they take on Hawthorn in Sunday's grand final re-match in Perth.

Fremantle hope their glut of speed demons will be able to knock the stuffing out of Hawthorn in Sunday's grand final re-match at Patersons Stadium.

Fit-again goalsneak Michael Walters is set to join Hayden Ballantyne, Hayden Crozier and Max Duffy in a fleet-footed forward line that is set to test Hawthorn's mettle.

Walters hasn't played an AFL match since dislocating a tendon in his ankle in round three, but he is on track to return against the Hawks after tallying 19 possessions and a goal in the WAFL last Saturday.

"His trademark is his pressure as well as his goalkicking, so he's the complete player as a small forward," Dockers coach Ross Lyon said of Walters.

"He can mark, and he's beautifully clean."

Duffy kicked 2.1 in his AFL debut after coming on as the sub in last week's loss to Geelong, while Crozier also impressed with three goals.

Lyon said he would seriously contemplate playing Walters, Duffy, Crozier and Ballantyne in the same side in a bid to test Hawthorn's defence.

"It's exciting. They're real offensive threats," Lyon said.

"We're trying to build a front half that's capable against all opposition."

Fremantle have relied heavily on their small forwards in recent years.

Walters and Ballantyne combined for 80 goals in last year's run to the grand final, while Ballantyne has booted a team-high 42 goals this season.

Fremantle have lost their past six games against Hawthorn, and another loss could see them tumble out of the top-four.

The ladder-leading Hawks will be without suspended forward Jarryd Roughead, while Jack Gunston is expected to miss due to a knee injury.

Fullback Brian Lake is available for selection after serving a four-match ban, but the Hawks may hold him back for next week's clash with Geelong given the six-day break between games.

Dockers defender Luke McPharlin faces a battle to get himself fit for the finals after being ruled out for three weeks with a calf injury.

McPharlin has been troubled by the complaint for several weeks now, and will be replaced by Alex Silvagni.
