Small firms worry tax cut will be reversed

Almost a third of small firms have not made changes to their business fearing recent company tax cuts will be reversed with a change of government.

Almost a third of small and medium-sized businesses are concerned the company tax cuts secured by the Turnbull government will be reversed if Labor gets into power.

Parliament has passed tax cuts over the next three years for businesses with a turnover of up to $50 million, but a new survey by business software provider MYOB found many firms are not making any changes to their business because they believe they will be reversed.

MYOB boss Tim Reed told AAP Labor must come out and say what they would do in government otherwise the impact of the cuts will be lost.

However, 44 per cent of respondents say they are planning to use the tax cut savings to invest back into their business.

The government re-introduced into parliament last month the rest of its 10-year plan to cut the corporate tax rate to 25 per cent for all businesses.

"We hope the government is able to secure support for its ongoing program of company tax cuts," Mr Reed said.

"The simple fact is that lower corporate taxes across the board ... (will) help all Australian businesses become more internationally competitive."
