Smith keeps Storm future under wraps

Cameron Smith's playing future remains unclear with the Melbourne Storm skipper tight-lipped at the club's fan day.

Melbourne skipper Cameron Smith didn't deliver the news the Storm faithful turned out to hear on Saturday, remaining tight-lipped about his NRL playing future.

There were rumours through the week that Smith would confirm his commitment to the Storm at the club's annual fan day, held before their opening trial against Canberra at AAMI Park.

Many turned out in the sweltering heat but Smith didn't go near the subject in an on-stage question and answer session.

The Australian captain has been offered a multi-million dollar deal to head home and play with the Brisbane Broncos from 2015.

While it was initially believed that Smith would take up the offer, Storm coach Craig Bellamy said midweek that the signs were now "promising" that his hooker would stay.

It was reported that Melbourne assembled a club-record $4 million-plus package labelled "too good to refuse" that would see the 30-year-old play out his career with the club.

Smith and fellow Kangaroos Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk sat out the trial match.

Smith has only recently resumed training following Australia's triumphant World Cup campaign while the other two are recovering from surgery.

Smith and Slater are set to play the club's final trial match, against the Bulldogs in Brisbane on February 23.

Storm fans will be hoping that he doesn't make an announcement that day.
