Smith, Kirk slip out of contention in LGPA

Australians Sarah Jane Smith and Katherine Kirk are 12 shots behind third-round leader Lizette Salas in the Meijer LGPA Classic.

P - Sarah Jane Smith and Katherine Kirk are the best-placed Australians as the the United States' Lizette Salas took a four-stroke lead in the Meijer LGPA Classic.

Smith and Kirk shot rounds of 71 and 72 respectively on Saturday to be in tie for 35th place, 12 strokes behind Salas.

Sarah Kemp (74) is a further three shots back, just ahead of Minjee Lee who shot 75.

Salas shot a seven-under 64 to take a four-stroke lead, putting her in position for her second tour title.

She closed her bogey-free round at Blythefield Country Club to finish at 16-under.

Salas had shares of the lead after each of the first two rounds, also opening with a 64 and shooting a 69 on Friday. The 2013 US Solheim Cup player won the 2014 Kingsmill Championship.

She birdied three of the first four holes and added another at the par-four ninth hole to pull in front.

Lexi Thompson and Michigan native Kris Tamulis were tied for second.

Top-ranked Inbee Park, a three-time winner this year, had five birdies in a six-hole stretch and finished with a 66 to move into a tie for 10th at five-under.
