Snake poison fears after NSW boy collapses

A four-year-old boy who collapsed after walking through bushland near Scone, in regional NSW, has a suspected snake bite on one leg.

A preschooler has collapsed with a suspected snake bite near the NSW town of Scone.

The alarm was raised just after 2pm (AEDT) on Friday when the boy emerged from bushland near Brushy Hill Road, Glenbawn, in the state's Hunter region.

"We responded to reports that a four-year-old boy had walked out of the bush and had come out with a couple of puncture wounds on his leg, and collapsed soon after," a NSW Ambulance Service spokeswoman told AAP.

Paramedics found a scratch midway down the child's left leg, although this is yet to be confirmed as a snake bite.

The boy was taken to Scott Memorial Hospital in Scone but a rescue helicopter is on standby in case he needs to be transferred to a larger hospital in Newcastle.
