AUSTRALIA v SOUTH AFRICA, DAY 3
* SCORE: South Africa 311 & 5-238, Australia 255
* MAN OF THE MOMENT: Steve Smith. Australia's skipper is under immense pressure after revealing he and his leadership team, desperate to change momentum in the match, came up with the idea of trying to illegally scuff the ball with tape.
* KEY MOMENT: Cameron Bancroft uses the tape while working on the ball in the post-lunch session. The umpires call the Australian over while analysing the state of the ball, at which point he takes the tape out of his pocket and unsuccessfully attempts to hide it in his pants. Bancroft is later charged with ball tampering.
* STAT OF THE DAY: Smith has six catches in the match. Three more and he'll hold the outright record for most catches by a non-wicketkeeper in any Test.
* SUMMARY: South Africa's lead is 294 runs. It would take an astonishing reversal - or rain of biblical proportions - for Australia to avoid going 2-1 down in the four-Test series.
* QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I'm embarrassed. I know the boys in the shed are embarrassed" - SMITH was distraught after play, confessing he is ultimately responsible for the tampering but vowing he won't stand down as skipper.
