Snapshot from day two at Wimbledon

Another bad day for Australians at Wimbledon, but big names in the men's and women's draw both booked comfortable paths to the second round.

PLAYER OF THE DAY: Arina Rodionova - Australia's lone representative in the second round showed great character to save seven match points on the way to knocking out world No.17 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a three-set thriller.

STAT OF THE DAY: With no winners from six starters, Australia's men have endured their equal-worst Wimbledon since 1938.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I couldn't care less if I make a fourth round US Open or I lose first round. To me, everything is the same. I'm going to play another 10 years, and I know after my career I won't have to work again." - Bernard Tomic's extraordinary explanation after surrendering meekly in straight sets to Germany's Mischa Zverev.

HOW THE AUSSIES FARED: Another day to forget with world No.166 Rodionova the only winner after stunning Pavlyuchenkova 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 9-7. However, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Jordan Thompson, Tomic and Daria Gavrilova all crashed out.

TALKING POINT: Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were both gifted second-round spots after Alexandr Dolgopolov and Martin Kilzan retired hurt on Centre Court. It brings the number of players that have withdrawn mid-match to six - including Australian No.1 Nick Kyrgios.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: A low-key day with Federer and Djokovic advancing without having to break much sweat and last year's finalist Milos Raonic brushing aside Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets. In the women's draw, No.1 seed Angelique Kerber and Czech third seed Czech Karolina Pilskova both advanced comfortably.
