SNAPSHOT FROM DAY TWO AT WIMBLEDON

PLAYER OF THE DAY: Alex de Minaur - the Australian teenage sensation marked his Wimbledon main-draw debut with a 6-4 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 win over French Open semi-finalist Marco Cecchinato.

STAT OF THE DAY: Eight Australians are through to the second round with Nick Kyrgios, Bernard Tomic, Matt Ebden, Ashleigh Barty, Daria Gavrilova and Samantha Stosur all joining de Minaur and day-one victor John Millman in the winners' circle.

UPSET ALERT: A day after two top-five seeds crashed out, Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich sent dual champion and pre-tournament title favourite Petra Kvitova packing with a 6-4 4-6 6-0 first-round boilover.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Of course I believed I could win, expected to win, did win. I couldn't ask for much more. It was pretty routine, went according to plan." - the supremely confident Ebden after taking out 10th seed David Goffin to open up his draw big time.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: World No.1 Simona Halep, defending champion Garbine Muguruza and British hope Johanna Konta escaped the continuing carnage in the women's draw - but Maria Sharapova didn't, the 2004 winner going out in the opening round for the first time with a shock loss to Russian qualifier Vitalia Diatchenko. Men's world No.1 Rafael Nadal, three-time champion Novak Djokovic and fourth seed Alexander Zverev all safely negotiated through their openers, as did veteran Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in his record-setting 66th consecutive grand slam appearance.
