STAT OF THE DAY: Roger Federer's win over Simone Bolelli propelled the Swiss superstar into the Open's third round for the 16th successive year.

KEY MOMENT: Maria Sharapova saves two match points with blazing forehand winners before grinding out the second-round win over Russian qualifier Alexandra Panova.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: Apart from big guns Federer and Murray, fellow title hopefuls Tomas Berdych and Grigor Dimitrov also moved on, while women's dark horses Ekaterina Makarova and Karolina Pliskova joined Sharapova in advancing.
