* Hawthorn had to earn their spot the hard way after the Eagles stunned them in the qualifying final at Domain Stadium but they were super impressive in knocking off Fremantle in the preliminary final in their second visit to Perth in as many weeks

* With a week off, West Coast were supposed to make light work of North Melbourne to advance to the grand final but the Roos held a surprise early lead before Adam Simpson's side regained their composure to move into the premiership decider
