Three-time Olympian Belinda Snell's international basketball career is seemingly over after being cut from the Opals for their first training camp.
The 35-year-old Bendigo Spirit shooting guard was named in an extended 27-player squad for the Rio Olympics last month, however she is one of three players to not be named for the first training camp in Canberra next week.
Bendigo Spirit guard Kelly Wilson, who has represented Australia at two Oceania Championships, and 23-year-old Madeleine Garrick were the other players to miss selection.
"While I have been here, Snelly and Kelly's commitment over the three years to the Jayco Opals program has been tremendous," Opals coach Brendan Joyce said.
"These are not easy decisions for the coaching staff to make but its important to make the decision early and let the girls know.
Snell debuted in 2001 and won silver medals at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics before helping claim the bronze at London in 2012.
She also won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and World Championships in that same year, and has played in the WNBA as well as major leagues in Spain, France and Russia.
"Snelly will be invited to one of the camps in the next few months to help celebrate her career and commitment to the Jayco Opals with the entire team," Joyce said.
Joyce also hinted that Garrick was seen "as a player of the future".
