Neither club revealed the financial details of the deal but reports in the German media said Dortmund had paid around 20 million euros (17.9 million pounds) for the 26-year-old.

"I've always wanted to play in the Premier League at some stage and I've had offers too... but when Dortmund came calling, I didn't have to think twice," Delaney told Dortmund's website https://www.bvb.de/eng/News/Overview/Borussia-Dortmund-sign-Thomas-Delaney.

"For me, BVB are one of the top 10 clubs in Europe and one of the top two clubs in Germany – and the stadium is definitely the best in all of Europe."

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said Delaney's physical presence would boost the club's midfield.

"Delaney is a strong player in terms of his physicality and his character, as well as being an excellent fit for our team thanks to his open manner and fierce will to win," he said.

Delaney played 32 league games for Bremen last season, scoring three goals and providing five assists. He is Dortmund's third acquisition in the close season after they signed goalkeeper Marwin Hitz from Augsburg and midfielder Marius Wolf from Eintracht Frankfurt.
