Socceroos wear words of support

The Socceroos' official World Cup suits have been unveiled and, thanks to fans' tweets and some hungry sheep, they are infused with Australia's support.

The Socceroos will literally wear the nation's sentiments on their sleeves at the World Cup, with the team's official suits "infused" with fans' messages of support.

On the night in 2013 that the Socceroos qualified for the tournament with victory over Iraq, thousands of tweets were sent congratulating the team.

Some of those - including from model Jessica Gomes, former cricketer Shane Warne and actor Hugh Jackman - were chosen to be turned into giant grass letters grown in a field at Cooma, southern NSW.

As baaa-rmy as it sounds, merino sheep ate the letters and their wool will be used to make the Socceroos' official World Cup suits.

Suit maker, MJ Bale, says their wool means the players' suits will be "infused" with fans' support.

Former national goalkeeper Mark Bosnich said: "Seeing the tweets grown in grass, before being eaten by sheep whose wool is being used to prepare suits for the Socceroos, is just brilliant."

Paddock owner Don Menchin added: "I can't say I've ever seen sheep fed on tweets before, but anything to support the Socceroos is worth a shot."

The first pictures of the suit's design were revealed to AAP.

They show a sharp slim-fit style in navy blue.
