Solar technology breakthrough by Aussie scientists

Australian scientists are being hailed after a major breakthrough in solar technology.

A team led by Professor Martin Green - sometimes called the Father of Photovoltaics - has boosted the efficiency of solar panels to 40 per cent.

The team from the University of New South Wales used a new way of splitting sunlight into four different cells, boosting its conversion levels.

Professor Green told Darren Mara this technique could be harnessed to push solar efficiency even further - potentially making solar technology amongst the most efficient and cheapest options in the energy mix.
