Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has put his party's dramatic fall in the polls to "hard decisions" he made that "some people didn't like".

The Liberal National Party (LNP) annihilated Labor in the state election three years ago, scooping 78 seats in the 89 seat parliament.

The opposition was left with just seven seats, but polls suggest the LNP and Labor are now neck and neck.

The premier says the reason is that he was elected to clean up a mess and some people didn't like the the way he did it.

"When you elected a government to fix something up and sort out a mess, and that's what we were elected to do ... you've got to make hard decisions," Mr Newman told 97.3 FM Radio.

"Well, some people didn't like it, but I mean today our hospitals are doing better."

Mr Newman then started talking about how his government had employed more doctors and nurses and increased funding to schools.

He was later quizzed on Go Cards, Queensland's highest mountain, former premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen and the state capital.

Mr Newman was playing on behalf of a listener who won $50 every question he got right.

He answered six questions right, but said "pass" when asked how to spell Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk's surname.

"I always put AP because - I'm sorry Annastacia," Mr Newman said.

The listener was offered double or nothing for a bonus question, but she turned it down.

They asked the premier the question anyway, to name the main character of 50 Shades of Grey.

"Anastasia," he replied, which was correct.
