Priority processing fees for passports will increase and a separate fee is to be introduced for emergency passports, under several changes made in the federal budget.
But the fee to replace a lost or stolen passport is being scrapped, and in some cases a lost, stolen or damaged passport will be able to be replaced rather than require the purchase of a new passport.
The changes, from July 1, are expected to raise $17.1 million for the government over four years.
Sixteen and 17 year-olds, who can currently only buy a five-year passport, will also be able to buy a 10-year passport.
