The man who wrote the military ballad `I was only 19' has penned a new song commemorating the proud legacy of Aboriginal diggers over 100 years.

John Schumann will perform the song "On Every Anzac Day" at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra on Saturday.

Mr Schumann hopes the song is another step towards reconciliation.

He said he was not pressured to shy away from some of the injustices indigenous soldiers were faced with in the past.

The song will be available to download from iTunes.
