Sony says it's edge is in camera tech

Sony has revealed three new smartphones, which they say stand out thanks to their camera technology and stamina.

Sony have released details of their new smartphones, saying the new models will have the edge on Apple and Samsung products with their battery life and camera.

Sony unveiled their three new phones at the IFA technology show in Berlin this week: the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and the world's first smartphone capable of shooting and viewing in 4K - the Xperia Z5 premium.

"We've got a couple of different pillars where we stand out and one of them's camera technology," Sony market head for Oceania John Featherstone told AAP.

He said aside from boasting a 23 megapixels camera, their phones also have a unique sensor.

In most smartphones you press a spot on the screen to focus on that point.

"(But) instead of a single point of focus, you've got 192 points of focus, so if you have something move in and out of focus, it's detecting that and reacting instantly to autofocus the camera," Mr Featherstone.

In addition to the Ultra HD screen and 4K video, Mr Featherstone says the other area that he says gives Sony smartphones an edge is their battery life.

"For those who are using a smartphone and are using it all day long, it needs to last more than a day and certainly on stamina mode you're talking a few days with this range," he said.

The Xperia Z5 and Z5 compact are expected to launch globally next month and Xperia Z5 Premium from November. Pricing has not yet been released.
