South Sydney coach Michael Maguire says he would like to see an allowance growth for one-club players including veteran Rabbitohs forward John Sutton.

Sutton, in his 13th season at Souths, has called on the NRL to increase the exemption on long-serving players in the salary cap, to give back to players who stay at one club for a long period of time.

Maguire on Wednesday said that "definitely" should be the case, adding he hopes the one-club veteran stays put as he edges on 300 NRL matches.

"Those things will be sorted out over time if you are performing well on the park," Maguire said.

"John is a big part of what we do and I have really enjoyed coaching him. I still do."

"He is well and truly this club through and through."

Meanwhile, Maguire said the Rabbitohs have avoided distraction amid talks of a transfer window following constant speculation around the movement of big-name players.

He said the club was "pretty settled" after signing a number of key players including Adam Reynolds, Greg Inglis and Sam Burgess earlier on in the season.

"Obviously there are things in the background that are ticking away but we are pretty open and honest with our players and that's what we find works," he said.

"We have worked pretty hard in the background to make sure we have obviously signed people ... and have quite a number of our players locked away for some time so we can really grow."
