South Sydney will be missing Adam Reynolds for 6-8 weeks after the halfback broke his thumb, ruling him out of State of Origin contention.
Reynolds suffered the injury in the Rabbitohs' 16-10 NRL win over St George Illawarra at ANZ Stadium on Monday night in his first game back from a knee injury.
"Very frustrating to have another injury but I believe everything happens for a reason. Back to #teamrehab for now. Can't wait to get back ??" tweeted Reynolds on Tuesday.
The loss of Reynolds is a big blow for Souths, who lost all three games while their No.7 recuperated from the knee injury caused by a diving James Graham in the Rabbitohs' win over Canterbury in round five.
Despite his disrupted season, Reynolds was being talked about for a possible NSW Origin call-up this season.
In better news for the Rabbitohs, John Sutton's eye injury - also suffered against the Dragons - is not as bad as first thought, with Sutton likely to play against Melbourne on Saturday night.
Sutton was suffering from double vision on the field after copping a finger in his eye while being tackled.
It was Sutton's first game back since suffering a broken jaw in round two.
