Spanish Olympic sailors in Rio gun scare

Two Spanish Olympic sailors and a coach have escaped injury after being assaulted at gunpoint in Rio.

Two Spanish sailors and a coach have been assaulted at gunpoint by children in Rio de Janeiro while training for the Olympics.

The Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) said in a statement that Fernando Echavarri, the 2008 Olympic gold medallist in the tornado class, Tara Pacheco, a former two-time world champion in the 470 class, and coach Santi Lopez-Vazquez robbed of electronic devices.

A statement from RFEV confirmed the three Spaniards were not hurt during the assault that took place in the middle of the street while they were going to have breakfast.

"There were five children with two pistols. To me they have taken all the instrumental work that we had at the time. It was a very unpleasant experience," Lopez-Vazquez said on the RFEV website.
