A Queensland teenager has been taken to hospital after suffering a serious neck and spinal cord injury during a Brisbane high school rugby match on the weekend.
St Joseph's College Gregory Terrace Year 11 student Conor Tweedy suffered the injury when a scrum collapsed during a second XV match against Brisbane Boys College on Saturday.
Conor, 16, was taken to hospital by ambulance and underwent emergency surgery.
In a post on the school's Facebook page, Terrace principal Michael Carroll said Conor underwent further surgery on Sunday.
"Following this surgery, he will return to ICU where he will remain sedated," Mr Carroll said.
"The next 48 hours are very important for Conor.
"I ask that you continue to keep Conor and the Tweedy family in your thoughts and prayers."
Conor is the son of Sean Tweedy, who played rugby for Queensland in 1990.
Mr Tweedy is a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland and an expert in the field of physical activity and disability.
