RUGBY LEAGUE - Melbourne ruined Justin Hodges' Brisbane farewell and the Broncos' NRL minor premiership hopes with a 15-8 victory at Suncorp Stadium which kept alive the Storm's bid for a top four finish.

CRICKET - Australia have cruised to a 59-run win over England in the opening ODI in Southampton, thanks largely to a unbeaten 112-run seventh wicket stand between Matthew Wade and Mitchell Marsh.

AFL - The AFL continues to back North Melbourne's decision to rest nine players for Friday's clash with Richmond, despite the move angering fans, commentators and rival club Adelaide.

NFL - A judge has overturned a four-game suspension imposed on New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady by the NFL for his alleged role in the "Deflate-gate" controversy - freeing the Super Bowl MVP to play in the season-opener.
