COMMONWEALTH GAMES: England have pulled eight gold medals clear of Australia at the top of the Commonwealth Games medal table with three days of competition remaining. Australia won just one gold medal on day eight, through wheelchair racer Angela Ballard in the 1500m.

AFL: Fremantle kicked the winning goal with less than a minute remaining to beat Carlton by five points in a special Thursday night AFL game in Perth.

RUGBY LEAGUE: NRL leaders Manly host Brisbane tonight, the Broncos desperate for a win to survive in a six-team logjam that's straddling the top eight. The other game to begin round 21 is a top-four clash between Canterbury and Penrith at ANZ Stadium.

SUPER RUGBY: The NSW Waratahs will have the support of their biggest crowd in more than 100 years when they host the Crusaders in Saturday night's Super Rugby final with more than 50 thousand spectators expected at ANZ Stadium.
