PARALYMPICS - Australian war veteran Curtis McGrath has won gold in the men's KL3 para-canoe sprint in Rio. McGrath, who lost his legs when he stepped on a landmine in Afghanistan, won by a boat length ahead of six-time world champion Markus Swoboda of Austria. Meanwhile, Australian para-canoeist Amanda Reynolds took silver in the women's KL3 and countrywoman Susan Seipel bronze in the KL2 final.

SOCCER - English heavyweights Manchester United made a poor start to its Europa League group campaign, losing 1-0 to Feyenoord. Athletic Bilbao was upset by Sassuolo 3-0 and Southampton were 3-0 winners over Sparta Prague.

GOLF - South Korean pair Chun In Gee and Park Sung Hyung set the pace at the final major of the year as both shot opening eight-under 63s to share the lead at the Evian Championship. World No.1 Lydia Ko is seven off the lead, while Sarah Jane Smith is the highest-placed Australian, tied for 15th spot.

CYCLING - Triple Tour de France champion Chris Froome says he has "no issue" with his private medical records being leaked in a cyber attack by Russian hackers on the World Anti-Doping Agency.

SOCCER - West Brom have announced a takeover by Chinese group Yunyi Guokai Sports Development Limited has been completed.

SOCCER - Joey Barton's Rangers future appears in doubt after the midfielder was banished from the club's training ground following an internal dispute.

TENNIS - Andy Murray will play in Great Britain's Davis Cup semi-final against Argentina this weekend despite his grandfather's funeral being held during the tie.
