SOCCER - Britain's anti-fraud organisation is probing potential money-laundering offences related to the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups - with an Australian payment of $A500,000 under the microscope.

TENNIS - Maria Sharapova appears back in form after months of injury problems, beating top seed Simona Halep 6-4 6-4 at the WTA finals, while Flavia Pennetta upset Agnieszka Radwanska 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 in the other Red Group match.

SURFING - Former world champion Joel Parkinson is through to the quarter-finals of the World Surf League event in Portugal after eliminating US surfer Kolohe Andino in their fifth round match-up.
