TENNIS - The door is open for Bernard Tomic to make a winning start to 2015 with the Aussie beating German third seed Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3 6-4 on Wednesday night to cap off a day where the top three men's seeds all crashed out of the Sydney International.

CRICKET - Adelaide have guaranteed themselves a home Big Bash League semi-final after toppling the Sydney Sixers by 23 runs - the return of Test star Nathan Lyon not enough for the home side as rival spinner Johan Botha dominated with the bat and ball.

CRICKET - Glenn Maxwell cast aside any doubts about his selection for Australia's World Cup squad after blasting 136 from just 89 balls in a losing effort for the Prime Minister's XI against England, for whom Ian Bell starred with a magnificent 187.

SOCCER - Swansea City have denied a claim by the Ivory Coast Football Federation that striker Wilfried Bony's move to their Premier League rivals Manchester City had been completed.
