SOCCER - La Liga giants Barcelona have thrashed Celtic 7-0 on the opening day of group matches in the European Champions League. Arsenal drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid beat PSV Eindhoven 1-0 away and Bayern Munich trounced FC Rostov 5-0. Torrential rain caused Manchester City's clash with Borussia Moenchengladbach to be postponed.

OLYMPICS - Confidential athlete medical data relating to last month's Rio Olympics has been hacked and published by the Russian cyber espionage group known as Fancy Bear. US tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams and multiple gold medal-winning gymnast Simone Biles are among those targeted by the group, with the threat of more to come.

PARALYMPICS - Australia's all-time fastest Paralympian Evan O'Hanlon has missed out on a hat-trick of gold medals in the men's T38 100m, picking up silver. O'Hanlon, who finished behind China's Jianwen Hu, has retired.

OLYMPICS - The International Olympic Committee has sanctioned four Russian Olympians who competed at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London games for failing drug tests, including silver medallist Maria Abakumova.

OLYMPICS - Fiji police are investigating the theft of an Olympic gold medal belonging to Fiji rugby sevens player Masivesi Dakuwaqa. Dakuwaqa claimed the medal went missing last week from his home near Nadi.

SOCCER - Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare is expected to make a full recovery after he was seriously injured in a car accident.

SOCCER - Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of South Korea has demolished China's Shanghai SIPG 5-0 to march into the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League. 2003 champions Al Ain sealed a semi-final spot with a 1-0 win over Lokomotiv Tashkent.
